Scientists have proven that snow can be observed on a global scale like never before. Snow is a primary resource of freshwater, providing drinking water and sources of irrigation. As the climate changes, snow packs are shrinking, and it is crucial to understand the distribution of snow, and when and where we will get these freshwater surges.

Each snowflake has a unique form, and utilizing GPM technology, each snowflake can be observed. GPM can sense snow at many different channels, which can determine the type and intensity of precipitation, from light rain, to heavy rain, to ice. This is important because it tells scientists about atmospheric circulation and can help improve precipitation models.
