PPS will start to process the TRMM TMI level 2 and level 3 GPROF products, the core member of the TRMM era GPROF products family, on Thursday, April 19, 2018. Similar to the early released TRMM era AMSRE, AMSUB, SSMI, MHS, SSMIS, AMSR2 and ATMS level 2 and level 3 products, all level 2 and level 3 GPROF products will be produced as GPM version V05, all products are in HDF5 format, all product names will use the GPM naming convention and the produced data will appear both in STORM:

after these are produced.

The retrieval algorithm complies with those used for other GPM Version 5 products. As compared to TRMM V7, the GPM V05 TMI precipitation field has a much better match with the GPM V05 GMI precipitation field for the TRMM-GPM overlap time period. All users are encouraged to retrieve these latest TMI level 2 and level 3 GPROF products to ensure that they use the most recent products. The TMI level 2 and level 3 GPROF products being reprocessed is listed below with its data source, start time and end time:

The other note is that the GANAL ancillary data is not available back through the TRMM era. So only the GPROF products using the ECMWF ancillary data will be produced.

When the TMI level 2 and level 3 GPROF products are processed, the reprocessing of the GPM version V05 GPROF products for the entire TRMM era will be completed. PPS will continue to work with the GPROF researcher and algorithm developer community. Once there is any updated GPROF product available, PPS will inform users as soon as possible.

As always, the processed TRMM TMI level2 and level 3 GPROF products will be held until they have been reviewed and verified by the Science Team.  The processed TRMM TMI level 2 and level 3 GPROF products will be released to the public upon their approval.
