In this interview, Dr. Dalia Kirschbaum talks about the importance of observing precipitation from satellites in understanding the water cycle, and explains the constellation of international satellites used to study global climate, including TRMM and GPM. She explains how weather is "like our mood" while climate is "like our personality over time". The necessary components of a hurricane are highlighted, including "warm water", "pre- existing storms", and "breezes". NASA satellite imagery shows a hurricanes hot towers, as well as the different layers of the hurricane. GPM is an extension of TRMM, and allows us to views these hurricanes from a global perspective.
